Marketing Monday # 3: How Implementing SEO Can Help You Gain Big Wins.
First the basics, SEO stands for “search engine optimization” which, in short, is a series of steps you complete in order to increase the visibility of your website on the major search engine’s results pages. SEO is a must have in the internet world. The formula for the algorithms is updated regularly. Based on a number of factors that go into a secret algorithm, your page is ranked with a score, which determines the ranking location of your site in the search engine results. Search engines use what are called “crawlers” to search website pages and pull in information for the crawlers to rank sites. Many people’s ultimate goal is for their website to rank on the first page of Google’s search results page. Now that we know what SEO is and how it works, how do we do it?
There are several actions to take to optimize your site. Some easier than others, however, all are effective and should be done continuously. A big win in these steps is that a lot of these methods go hand in hand with marketing your site. Completing all of the steps will be to your advantage. Below is a list of immediate action items you can take this week.
Upload your content on social bookmarking sites. Entering your content on these sites creates web-wide footprint for your site
Title keywords. When you write content, ensure that you title the entry with a keyword driven title. Of course, the keyword should drive the subject of your content.
Write content for your readers. A lot of times, it’s thought that inserting keywords in across your site will improve your site ranking. However, it’s more important to write content that engages your readers and that also includes your key words. Search engines were created to help people find what they are looking for quickly. Therefore, write content that will interest readers and will continue to bring them back.
Utilize social media. Add social media buttons to your site. By doing this, you allow people to send your content out to the web with a link. The more links that point to your site across the web, the more visibility your site has to the search engines and to other people
Create linkbacks. Write guest articles and blog postings. When you create guest content you are able to enter your author information. This should always include a link back to your site. In addition, if in your guest article/post, you refer back to something you’ve already written about on your site create a link within the content linking back to your article about the subject.
